Digital Illustrator
Matt Young is an Irish freelance graphic designer and illustrator currently based in Norfolk, UK. He runs myohmy Design, delivering creative solutions for a diverse array of briefs and commissions.
Known for his distinctive, highly-detailed and varied style, Matt’s art is a captivating blend of form, genre, technique and media. His unique fusion of bold, surreal, lowbrow, and graphical elements, alongside highly detailed digital illustrations, explores themes of the supernatural, popular culture, and humanity's complex relationship with technology.
As a creator of noir pop-art, Matt’s detailed drawings and designs provide satirical, unsettling, and macabre reflections on the intricacies of human existence. His work, rich with dystopian humour, challenges viewers to confront the paranoia of modern living and the absurdity of the human condition.
Born in 1981 in Bangor, Northern Ireland, Matt has been creating art for as long as he can remember. His childhood was filled with drawing, painting, and playing the guitar, activities that fuelled his creative passion. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Fine Art Painting from the University of East London in 2004, and later earned a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from the University of Lincoln in 2011.
With over 27 years of experience in the Creative Industry, including 14 years within the pop culture and music scene, Matt has created everything from album covers and band merchandise to corporate branding and screenprints. In late 2013, he founded the clothing brand DETH KULT which quickly gained a large social media following. This platform allowed him to experiment creatively and produce illustrations outside his client work.
Matt’s background in fine art has been instrumental to his success as a freelancer. His ability to work independently, adapt creatively, and use a variety of mediums has enabled him to serve a wide spectrum of clients. His latest collection of work reflects a fusion of the many skills he has
acquired over the years, with a focus on surreal transmutations and spiritual alchemy. Regardless of the subject matter, his attention to detail and love for drawing are evident in every piece.
Influenced by heavy metal music, energy drinks, manga, comic books, pop art, tattoo culture, street art and graf fiti, Matt’s work is a vibrant testament to his eclectic inspirations and unwavering passion for art.
